Blog Post #6 - Sound Project! - 10/26/2021

 

So I have not blogged on here in a while! Been nearly a month now surprisingly, but I've had a bunch of stuff like school work & a bunch of stuff happening in my family and just overall, my life's been in craziness. But fairly recently, I got back into the world of media studies by working on a project for the last two weeks alongside two other students related to sound & to create a short little story from it, a foley stage project you could call it! We had all gotten together & managed to reach a consensus on what we wanted to do pretty quickly, we essentially wanted to start off with a person walking to his home with a car behind him that had two people in it, person from the car would then leave & begin to follow the person walking home & then hit them with a bat, they'd then return to their car & be congratulated for their work. 

So, to begin off, we began to record by firstly recording the walking, which legit took us like a day. So how we did this is that we went to our schools courtyard and began to record our own footsteps by using a voice memos app, it was probably also the hardest part as those that were recording the sounds footsteps could be heard, also it was a challenge to determine who exactly had the best footsteps, not too high, not too low, not too fast, not too slow. But then we also recorded us walking at a faster pace. Ultimately and thankfully, we got it out of the way! Then, one of the people I worked on the project with had recorded himself driving the car in his community, also added in some rick astley in the background just to add some more flavor to the car sound. this was also surprisingly the easiest sound to record out of the entire project surprisingly. After we recorded both of the real sounds, we added in sounds that we didn't record in reality, one of them being the random person being hit with the bat, this was also pretty hard as not a lot of sounds can be found in the internet that pertain to a bat hitting someone but ultimately we found something that worked. We also recorded people speaking but to make it creepier, me made the people speaking lower, like EXTREMELY lower to the point where they sounded like the adults from Charlie Brown cartoons. Then, we edited out it all out & created our own little mini-movie. I overall enjoyed working with my group as they were definitely extremely cooperative & we all pitched in our own way. I thought for our first one, it wasn't terrible, definitely major amounts of room for improvement but definitely nothing terrible. It was lots of fun though and it was definitely lots of fun creating, enjoyed my team partners as well. But this is my first blog in like a month, and I promise to continue posting more often!
