Film Opening Research #1 - Spider Man 3 - 1/3/2021
So continuing on with my research on multiple film openings, I decided to choose Spider Man 3, since the overall topic of Spider Man has been trending quite a lot recently with the release of the new movie, Spider Man No Way Home. So I chose Spider Man 3 since I like the opening quite a lot actually! So I'd like to discuss the various elements that are featured here in the opening. For starters, how many titles are portrayed in the movie? It has titles like the main title noting that this is the third movie in Spider Man Trilogy along with a multitude of subtitles crediting the people that were involved with the film, such as the actors and the producers along with everyone else that helped in the creation of the scenes, just mainly the ones that had a high amount of value and importance, and then leaving the rest for the end credits of the film. There are multiple images that are portrayed throughout the movie that are essentially giving a visual recap of the last two films, showing various scenes throughout the first and second placed in chronological order to give the viewer a understanding of the last two. In addition, they also have images of the characters with subtitles of the names of the actors and actresses, just so the audience has an understanding of what they're essentially viewing. The Genre of the movie is basically a Superhero movie, but how does the movie let the viewer know that what they're seeing has to do with superheroes? The Soundtrack played overall sounds super super-heroish! Not to mention, they fill the opening with visuals of webs to emphasize the fact that this movie has a ton to do with Spider Man, and it also plays the classic theme of the web-slinger that many may be able to recognize from the last two films, that is super iconic.
As previously stated, this markets to the audience by essentially hyping them up for what they're going to see, the opening features the recaps of the last two films to not only give the audience an understanding of what happened in the last two films but to also give an understanding of what they're getting themselves into, also used to increase the hype that is intended to be creating throughout the film. Various strategies are also used for the opening, for starters they use rapid transitions with the cameras to introduce the actors with visual footage of them to indicate what role they shall be playing, as well as various detailed shots of the webs along with a creation digital sand as well as the dark substance known as the Symbiote, which hint the introduction of the villains of the film, Venom and The Sandman. All in all, this is a pretty good opening that I could definitely watch again and again and again, and I'd just watch that and it wouldn't even get me excited for the actual film. Thats how fun it is! Below is the link for those that desire to listen.
